Origin and production

FIRE FROM TOKYO ”.

Shichimi Togarashi has its roots in the Edo period and was perfected in Tokyo as an intense table condiment. Our version combines traditional craftsmanship with carefully selected ingredients: dried seaweed, sun-dried orange granules, and freshly roasted black sesame seeds are gently blended, with balanced amounts of sancho and chili peppers added. Each batch is produced in small batches to optimally preserve the textures and flavors—crunchy sesame seeds, citrusy dried orange, and savory seaweed.

Taste and aroma

Intensely spicy, yet lively and fresh: the citrus notes of the orange enhance the heat, sansho pepper provides a slightly tingling sensation in the mouth, seaweed adds a salty umami depth, and black sesame rounds it off with nutty warmth. The spiciness is present but controlled—more lively than burning—resulting in a complex, layered flavor profile.

Application

A pinch is all it takes: perfect over udon, ramen, yakitori, or rice bowls. Excellent for the final seasoning of soups, grilled vegetables, and avocado toast. Also great as a finishing touch for fried fish fillets or in dips with soy sauce and sesame oil.

Interesting facts

Traditionally, shichimi represents the balance of seven distinct flavors. Our blend places particular emphasis on texture—toasted sesame seeds and orange zest provide crunch and freshness, while seaweed delivers the umami foundation. Originally an everyday seasoning, shichimi has been transformed into a modern, finely tuned version for discerning chefs.
