Poudre de Colombo originates from the French Caribbean islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe. Influenced by Indian curry traditions, it combines exotic spices with the refined spiciness of French cuisine. The use of mustard seeds gives it its characteristic, mild heat and a complex, balanced aroma – perfect for vegetables, meat, or stews.
Taste and aroma
Gentle, earthy, and warm – with a subtle balance of cumin, coriander, mustard seeds, and fenugreek. Turmeric and cloves lend a golden color and a soft spiciness that rounds out the dish.
Application
Ideal for curries, vegetable stews, or marinated meat dishes. To enhance the flavor, simply sauté 1 teaspoon of the mix with onions, garlic, and oil, add meat or vegetables, and simmer. Also excellent for lentil, potato, and rice dishes.
