Origin and Characteristics
“FOR GRILLED CHICKEN, BBQ SAUCES AND VEGETABLES”.
Piri Piri spice originates from Africa, particularly Mozambique and Angola, where the chili variety of the same name is native. The name "Piri Piri" means "small hot chili pepper" and refers to both the chili itself and the spicy spice blend made from it. In combination with garlic and oregano, it creates a characteristically spicy, aromatic blend that is widespread not only in Africa but also in Portuguese and Mediterranean cuisine.
Taste and Aroma
Spicy, aromatic, slightly earthy – with the characteristic heat of the African Piri Piri chili, rounded off by savory garlic and herbaceous oregano. Depending on the dosage, the spiciness can be individually adjusted without losing the intense flavor.
Application
Ideal for grilled chicken, BBQ sauces, meat marinades, or grilled vegetables. Mix 1 teaspoon of Piri Piri spice with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and a little lemon juice for a classic marinade. Also perfect in ketchup, honey, or tomato sauces to give them a spicy, Mediterranean touch.
