Origin and Production
“ONE OF THE HOTTEST CHILIES IN THE WORLD”.
The Carolina Reaper originated in the USA and was bred in South Carolina. It is considered one of the hottest known chili varieties and has been selectively bred over many years to achieve extreme heat. After harvesting, the pods are gently dried and then finely ground, so that the chili's intense heat is preserved.
Taste and Aroma
In addition to its extreme heat, the Carolina Reaper also has a slightly fruity note, which is typical for many very hot chilies. Even the smallest amounts create an intense heat development that quickly spreads throughout the dish.
Application
Carolina Reaper should be used very sparingly. Even small amounts are enough to give dishes extreme heat. It is particularly suitable for hot sauces, chili dishes, marinades, rubs for grilled meat, or for adding extra heat to soups and stews. When handling, it is recommended to dose carefully.
Facts
The Carolina Reaper was at one time listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the hottest chili in the world. Its heat is measured in so-called Scoville units and can reach over two million Scoville. Due to this extreme intensity, it is usually only used in very small quantities.
